On & Off the Needles
Color Affection has been finished for awhile now and it is splendid. After finishing Pam’s vest, I rewarded myself
that evening by spending some quality time with the shawl. The Eco Wool is great to work with but my
fingers were missing the feel of the merino.
I found that there was no putting it back in the basket to work on
something else once I got started. Each
day that week, I sat outside for a couple of hours knitting away as the
wind blew through the trees. Thoroughly enjoying the last days of summer.
Socks that Rock lightweight is a luxurious 100% superwash
merino yarn. This yarn is super. Superabundant. Superb.
Superbomb. Superlative. Supersoft.
Superstar. Seriously, super.
The shawl itself is exquisite. I am 100% satisfied with my color
choices. The combination of the three
colors is so lush and opulent that I cannot stop admiring it. Touching it.
Squeezing it. Carrying it from room to room with me. And of course, wearing it.
Yarn: Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Lightweight in Smoke on the Water, Porcini and Spinel
While Pam’s vest was blocking I worked on my Gryffindor Year
3-4 House Scarf. This time of year
always has me thinking about Hogwarts. Wishing I was headed to Hogwarts for the start
of the school year; fretting about my O.W.Ls or the return of
He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. Instead, I
have to live vicariously through Harry, Hermione, Ron, and the rest of the gang. Once again, I am listening to my Harry Potter
audio book collection. It never gets old
for me. Never. The books are where it is at. Don’t get me wrong, the movies are great but
I would rather listen to Jim Dale narrate the books or re-read them myself. Since you last saw the scarf, I have surpassed the halfway point. It is past time this
scarf was finished. There are so many other Harry Potter inspired knits I am
itching to get started on. Like this, this or this.
I have also been trying to spend a couple nights a week
working on the blasted Moderne Log Cabin Blanket. It is getting there. Slowly.
I have stopped estimating when the blanket will be done. It will be done when it is done and not a
moment sooner. Mandy and Josh celebrated their first
anniversary almost a month ago. Happy Anniversary!
In looking back at my WiPs list, I think it is possible that
I will be able to finish the following this calendar year
:: the blanket
:: the house scarf
:: my Guernsey wrap (maybe)
:: my pogona (maybe).
As for everything else on the list
:: socks…sigh. 2013 will be the year of the sock for
me. Yes. It. Will.
:: KAL scarf…I have
decided to frog it and make this instead.
In looking at the work I have completed on this scarf I know that I will
not wear it. I do know that I will wear
the Gap-tastic Cowl. Deci, I hope you
understand.
Why is this list so important? I like to start things and not finish them. I have just as many sewing projects that go
back a couple of years to as recently as last week that are not finished. I hook rugs and have two in progress. It is the same with cross-stitch and many other
crafts. Started but not finished. Balance!
I need balance here. Finishing the WiPs or frogging them, either way I am wiping the board clean.
I have re-prioritized my WiP list because Yule is just around the
corner. So, I spent sometime recently flipping through patterns and digging in the stash.
I am ready. Ready to get my holiday knit and sew on.
